The Apple/Samsung patent trial continues but a new player has entered the dispute – Nokia made it clear that is taking Apple’s side.
Apple’s request for a ban of twenty six Samsung smartphones and tablets in December was denied with the US court stating that Apple has to prove the relationship between the stolen features and the customer demand for Samsung devices.
With Apple appealing the ruling, Nokia has filed a brief to the court stating that the ruling might cause a wide range of damages to the patent protection environment in the US.
The partnership was certainly unexpected but it might play a significant role in Apple’s permanent injunction request. That said, a lot of the aforementioned 26 Samsung devices are not on the market, including the Galaxy SII.
Nokia has been in a patent trial with Apple 4 years ago regarding the iPhone, but it is clearly decided to forget and forgive.
